In this interview, I start with the basics so you can understand how your website, SEO and social media fit together, I describe 5 Vital Habits to Keep Your Sanity, and why it’s so important to know why you need a website before you begin.
1. That’s where my customers check in almost daily.
2. I can target my ads to reach specific new audiences.
3. Facebook ads can be entertaining and compelling if I take the time to make them so. Google Ads, on the other hand, are still seen as pretty darn annoying to most folks. Not saying they don’t work, but if I can only choose one ad strategy, it’s Facebook all the way. Continue Reading…
I’m so tempted to say this was my idea… But, truth is, I saw this amazing trick from IKEA, of all places. So. Cool. And really easy to do if you take the time to follow instructions to set it up.
If you have multiple products or services, and want to try a fun campaign using tagging and hashtags on Instagram, check this out: Continue Reading…
A client recently requested that I send out periodic “checklists” as a gentle reminder of action items you would benefit from doing. LOVE THAT IDEA, so here are 3 action items for you to make time for in January. Continue Reading…
I know, I know…. Passwords are a pain in the ass. It’s easier to use the same password for everything, and you probably use your dog’s name, and dealing with this is not something you have time for. I get it. I’m right there with you. I hate airport security as much as the next person.
Security Reality Check: Updating your passwords every 6 months will make it very hard for anyone to access your information, which would really really suck if it were to happen to you.
You’re smart enough to decide within a few seconds if you’re getting what you need from this post. And it’s my job to keep you here so that you can at least get to the first subheading.
If my stopwatch is correct, it took you approximately 7 seconds to get to this point. And in order to keep you here, I have to combat a host of reasons for you to go elsewhere: Continue Reading…
The phone rang and it was a New Jersey accent on the other end, telling me he had just done a random Google search and a blog post I had written over a year ago had shown up as the #1 Google result. This one blog post has made me over $20,000 alone, bringing me new clients from California to… now, New Jersey.
Think it’s magic or dumb luck? Think again. I felt compelled to share this with anyone ambivalent or resistant to building your blog as part of your business. I beg you to pay attention and take action. Continue Reading…
My husband was going through his morning routine, listening to an mp3 of Allen reading aloud Getting Things Done.
Man, I forgot how good that book is! Quickly engrossed, and drawn in by Allen’s dry wit, my husband and I silently prepared coffee and eggs, fed the dog, periodically laughing and sighing with contemplative recognition and agreement. Continue Reading…
It’s Blogtober!!
I’m possibly high off of too much Halloween candy intake (It’s only the 23rd…. I’m in trouble), but I’m excited to share my favorite tools- including a few recent gems I’ve found- in the next few posts. Stay tuned for “Best Integrated & Automated CMS Systems”…. (oooohhhh aaaaah).
This post is going to step away from the juicy content conversation and focus your attention on the technical side of blogging- namely how to get your site fast, secure and optimized. I’m assuming you are using WordPress, although I am seeing a few other options creeping in…. BUT, check out these shockingly impressive stats:
Most of my clients are small to midsize businesses. I tend to deal with passionate artistic people who are great at what they do, but need help translating the big scary world of technology they are forced to navigate if they are going to keep up with their competition. So, while everyone is tossing around the term “Flat Design”, I thought I might pause and define it for anyone too embarrassed to ask, “What the heck is it?” Continue Reading…
We’ve all been there: a talented friend shows you his website, and you have to hide your reaction of shame and disappointment from him. His website simply doesn’t represent how amazing you know he truly is. In fact, his website actually makes him look cheap, incompetent and mediocre. Continue Reading…
This is the #1 question I get asked by my clients, usually when I am happily asking for my final balance to be paid. “But, I was hoping you might just do my social media for me? What if I just don’t want to do this online marketing ‘stuff’?” Continue Reading…
My husband and I are always working on our relationship. Our therapist says that we obviously still “dig each other”. We took it seriously when the priest who married us told us we had “a responsibility to be happy”, and we learned long ago that Happiness is hard work, well worth the effort we put in…. But, I don’t mind sayin’, HARD sometimes! There are more than a few How To books on our shelves.
So, I had to laugh out loud today when I turned the page of Nancy Duarte’s SLIDE:OLOGY (my visual storytelling guru’s book and a must-read for all of my clients) and read: Continue Reading…
UPDATE: It’s been a while since this article was initially written, and I’ve been incredibly impressed by Shopify’s added features. Maybe they read this article! Ultimately, I can now say that Shopify is my very favorite eCommerce solution. I’ve updated my reason below. Continue Reading…
The success of any social program is ultimately determined by its ability to connect on a one-to-one, human level. But what does it actually mean to be human in social media?
Is it having a fun and engaging brand? Speaking in everyday, colloquial language? Establishing a more relatable – even intentionally non-corporate – online presence?
To an extent, but these are surface symptoms. The core issue lies much deeper, in the nuances of how we interact with one another. Continue Reading…
