The Client: theSkimm
If you haven’t become addicted to theSkimm yet, beware. You probably will be by the time you get to the bottom of this page. Carly Zakin and Danielle Weisberg, founders way before their 30th bday, created a way of delivering daily news to the inbox of millennials all the way through mid-forties (and beyond, really). This daily drop of global events is funny, accurate, well-rounded, and will help anyone feel “up on the news” at that night’s dinner party. Brilliant.
I reached out to them to confess my web crush on their brand. To my surprise and delight they responded with a design request, followed by another, and another, and the rest…. is theSkimm’story.
The Challenge: Bring theSkimm girl to life
Over the course of several months, theSkimm girl would have many adventures within the email header she calls Home. She’d fix a plane, buy a home, hang with her friends, and suffer the next morning from partying too hard.
I even got to celebrate her third birthday! Always true to the brand, Danielle and Carly let me contribute and have a blast the entire time. “Skimm’sclusive” templates for Skimm’bassadors, ’80’s icons, brand identity style guides, investor decks, and a new UI fully coded and ready to install…. these are a few of my favorite Skimm’gigs.
Skimm Partnership with NIH
Over the course of many years, GRA has had the honor of creating many successful partnerships with theSkimm. For brands or organizations that resonate with theSkimm audience, this makes perfect sense. One of my personal favorites was coordinating an interview on theSkimm podcast with NIH Director, Francis Collins, Dr. Collins was able to provide current and clear information about the pandemic and the status of vaccines during the months preceding the election.
Skimm HQ and MarieTV
Greta Rose Agency always looks for partnerships. I know that amazing people need to know each other. The partnership and amazing co-crush that ignited when I introduced Marie Forleo to theSkimm founders. They didn’t know about each other, and I knew they shared a common audience. They were able to exchange stories with each other on one another’s platforms, and the result was magic.
Skimm HQ on Halloween
In October – Halloween Eve, no less – I had the joy of hanging out with theSkimm crew at their newly decorated HQ in NYC. I had just given a lecture at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. This was the perfect way to take my Jimmy Choos off, laugh and eat some Halloween candy. See if you can guess the costumes below. The theme? Witty Puns, of course.
